Dear Partner and Friend,

How are you? As the year 2023 winds up, we have every reason and plan to wrap it up in style, being a Thurday, we are throwing it back the holidaystyle A year ago 18 year-old Linda, a fistula survivor was depressed and death was at the forefront of her mind. She says and I quote ” Being me was uneasy and just downright difficult, I was constantly leaking stool after a difficult labor that resulted in a still birth, deserted by my then boyfriend in our one roomed rental, I slipped into depression. Life came to a standstill and nothing mattered. I felt there was no hope for me at all”.

Her marriage at a tender age of 16 was fuelled by the need to find stability in life, a chance encounter with Women And Development Against Distress In Africa(WADADIA) Field officer Ms. Fatuma Ramadhan turned her life around, she got screened and was referred to Gynocare women’s hospital where her fistula was successfully repaired. In June, Linda joined our rehabilitation and reintegration Program and recently completed skills training in hairdressing and joined the voices of hope for action movement, a movement spearheaded by survivors who utilize their platform to raise awareness on matters fistula and empowers fellow survivors to advocate for their reproductive health rights and wellbeing. She’s committed to be a voice of hope and encouragement to women faced with the same struggles. She’s is more than ready for the next chapter of her life.
