Fistula prevention strategies

As an organisation, we recognise the essence of investing in prevention programs if we are to win the fight against fistula in a generation. Our prevention programs involve, identification, referral and tracking of expectant mothers in the rural community to ensure they have skilled delivery. The approach involves working closely with them to develop a clear birth plan and offer psycho-education.

We also contact community outreaches and rallies, where we educate the community members on the cases of fistula and their roles in preventions. Our Kick fistula out of Africa WADADIA Football team has proved to be an essential tool in mobilising the community and creating a forum for sensitisation.

Rehabilitation and reintegration of the treated fistula survivors.

Though Female genital fistula is a medical condition with physical manifestation, it has both social and psychological implications to the clients and their families. WADADIA implores a double threefold reintegration model that targets the client, their family, and the community through the host families. (host families are volunteer families that sign up to stay with some of the fistula survivors for an agreed a period as a way of offering them love acceptance and a sense of belonging) With psychosocial, reproductive health and economic empowerment services and products. Our model targets at improving the quality of life of the fistula survivors and reducing the chances of fistula recurrence. Some of our interventions include but are not limited to individual, family and group therapy sessions, vocational skills training, other income-generating activities, and support group services.
