Caregiver perspective: Meet Norbert, husband to Joyce, a fistula patient, Norbert generously shares the lesson learnt as he cared for his wife and in their relentless attempts to keep her shameful condition a secret.

He says, “Don’t suffer in silence like my wife has for the past eight years, she’s leaked urine, suffered shame and ridicule. Experienced prolonged seasons of low libido and high fevers, after meeting with Fatuma Ramadan of Women And Development Against Distress In Africa(WADADIA) ,our hope for a better tomorrow has been renewed, when she gets past this, and I hope she will, we have a lot of catching up to do and so much to rebuild both physically and emotionally”.

Joyce Auma has been referred to Cherangany nursing hospital, a treatment facility funded by Fistula Foundation where her Fistula will be fixed.
