WADADIA Joins Partners in Advancing Free Fistula Care and Restoring Dignity.
As the world marks the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula 2026, Women and Development Against Distress in Africa (WADADIA) continues to work alongside national and global partners committed to ending obstetric fistula and improving maternal health outcomes for women across Kenya.
The upcoming free fistula surgical outreach at Kenyatta National Hospital brings together the Ministry of Health Kenya, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Amref Health Africa, Jhpiego, Fistula Foundation, Save A Woman Fistula Foundation, Beyond Zero Campaign, The Flying Doctors Society of Africa, M-Pesa Foundation, and other health systems stakeholders in a shared commitment to restoring dignity to women affected by childbirth injuries.
The outreach will provide:
- Free screening and admissions
- Specialized reconstructive surgery
- Clinical and psychosocial support
- Referral and follow-up care
At WADADIA, we recognize that surgery alone is not enough.

Through our community-centered programming, we continue to:
- Identify women living with fistula in underserved communities
- Raise awareness on safe motherhood and fistula prevention
- Provide psychosocial support and reintegration pathways
- Strengthen referral systems and partnerships
- Advocate for holistic, patient-centered care
Obstetric fistula remains a major public health and human dignity issue, particularly among vulnerable women with limited access to emergency obstetric care.
By working collaboratively, partners can reach more women, reduce stigma, strengthen healthcare systems, and ensure survivors are supported before, during, and after treatment.
