Terry’s Story: Breaking Chains of Abuse.

Meet Terry, a 15-year-old girl from Harambe, Kakamega County. Her journey is marred by difficult childhood, extreme lack and tragedy.

At just 7 years old, Terry lost her mother. What followed was years of unimaginable suffering verbal abuse from her father, physical violence from step brothers and sexual exploitation by her father.

She was always treating one sexual transmitted infection after the other until one day a nurse took interest in her case and informing her that of an organization that helps girls her and which the hospital works closely with.

She was linked to our Kakamega field officer who took up her case. She joined Women And Development Against Distress In Africa(WADADIA) rehabilitation and reintegration center.

• Terry received comprehensive legal, health and psychological services

• She gained economic empowerment through skills training in hairdressing, computer skills, dressmaking and beadwork

• She found a safe haven where she could heal and thrive

In her own words: “I felt safe. The women here became my real family. My relationship with my family is improving.”

At Wadadia we provide safe havens for survivors of GBV, we raise awareness about the importance of protecting women’s rights and we challenge harmful gender norms in the communities we serve

We are focused and determined to create a world where no child faces Terry’s trauma. To stand with survivors like Terry and and support our program visit: https://wadadia-nonprofits.org/donate/ every donation makes a difference
