Strengthening Community-Based Rehabilitation and Prevention Care for Obstetric Fistula.

WADADIA is collaborating with Amref International University, Moi University, University of Brighton, AMPATH, and Kenyatta National Hospital on a health systems needs assessment to inform the development of community-based rehabilitation and prevention care services for obstetric fistula in Nairobi and Uasin Gishu Counties.

The collaboration brings together academic, clinical, research, and community expertise to better understand gaps in the continuum of fistula care and identify approaches that can strengthen rehabilitation, prevention, psychosocial support, and community reintegration.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in Nairobi, WADADIA’s Program Manager participated alongside two women who have benefited from WADADIA’s fistula programs. Their participation ensured that the lived experiences of survivors were represented in discussions on how services can become more accessible, responsive, and sustainable.

For WADADIA, this collaboration reinforces our commitment to placing communities and survivors at the centre of health-system strengthening. By combining evidence with lived experience, partners can develop solutions that respond not only to the clinical needs of women affected by obstetric fistula, but also to the social, emotional, and economic challenges they face on their journey to recovery and reintegration.

Together, we are working towards a stronger continuum of care—one that moves beyond treatment to prevention, rehabilitation, dignity, and lasting reintegration.
