Restoring Dignity Through Healing and Empowerment: Juliet’s Story.

At WADADIA, we believe healing goes beyond surgery—it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and the power to dream again.

Juliet Auma, 23, from Busia County, knows this firsthand. After a prolonged, obstructed labor at a local dispensary, Juliet endured the trauma of a stillbirth and suffered from urinary incontinence for over three years.

“I felt dirty and ashamed. I couldn’t interact with people or even sit for long,” she recalls.

Her turning point came when she met a WADADIA-trained fistula advocate who referred her to our Mumias office. After screening, she was connected to Cherangany Nursing Hospital, part of the Kenya Fistula Treatment Network, where her fistula was successfully repaired—free of charge.

But that was only the beginning of her journey.

Juliet joined one of WADADIA’s support groups, connecting with other survivors, building resilience, and regaining confidence. This year, she took a bold step by enrolling in our vocational skills training program, choosing to pursue hairdressing.

“Now, I have a goal. I want to earn, support myself, and even open my own salon,” Juliet shares with a smile.

WADADIA’s rehabilitation and reintegration programs ensure that survivors like Juliet are not only physically healed but also economically empowered. Through mentorship, life skills, and vocational training, women are equipped to reintegrate into society with pride and purpose.
