Restoring Dignity Beyond Surgery: WADADIA Founder Meets Women on Their Journey to Healing.

For many women living with obstetric fistula and childbirth injuries, the road to recovery begins with surgery but true healing continues long after they leave the operating theatre.

Recently, WADADIA Founder and Lead Director Habiba Mohamed spent time with women and girls recovering at WADADIA Habibat Mother and Child Holistic Health and Training Hospital, engaging them in heartfelt conversations about their journeys from pain and isolation to healing and renewed hope.

Sitting beside patients in the wards, she listened as they shared stories of years spent living with childbirth injuries, the stigma they endured, and the courage it took to seek treatment. These conversations provided space for reflection, encouragement, and reassurance that they were no longer facing their journey alone.

The Founder later joined the hospital’s psychosocial support group, where recently repaired women openly shared experiences, encouraged one another, and celebrated milestones in their recovery. Guided by WADADIA’s counselling team, the sessions reinforced the organisation’s belief that healing must address both physical and emotional wellbeing.

As a counselling psychologist and health systems strengthening specialist, Habiba has consistently championed a holistic model of care that integrates reconstructive surgery, psychosocial support, community reintegration, and survivor empowerment. This approach continues to shape WADADIA’s HER Dignity Programme, ensuring women not only recover medically but also regain confidence, reconnect with their families, and rebuild their futures.

Following the patient engagements, she met with the programme team to review administrative priorities and strengthen systems that support the delivery of quality, compassionate, and patient-centred services.

At WADADIA, every restored woman is a reminder that dignity is rebuilt through compassionate care, listening, counselling, and strong partnerships not surgery alone.

Because every woman deserves the opportunity to heal, reclaim her confidence, and thrive. 💙
