Nurturing Generations: Restoring Women’s Health, One Life at a Time

For almost seven years, Lulu, a 41-year-old mother from Muyeye, silently lived with uterine fibroids.

What many people could not see was the daily reality behind her condition.

She experienced persistent back pain, prolonged and excessively heavy menstrual bleeding, severe fatigue resulting from anemia, and ongoing concerns about her fertility. Her condition also affected her livelihood, forcing her to take repeated time off work during her menstrual cycles and placing her employment at risk. The financial burden of purchasing large quantities of sanitary products every month added to the strain.

Like many women living with neglected reproductive health conditions, Lulu accepted pain as part of life.

That changed after she heard about WADADIA’s services on a local radio station.

She visited WADADIA Habibat Mother and Child Hospital, where she became a beneficiary of Nurturing Generations, WADADIA’s comprehensive approach to reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health.

Following a thorough assessment, Lulu successfully underwent surgery to remove her fibroids.

For Lulu, however, healing extended beyond the operating theatre.

She also received individual psychosocial support that helped her process years of physical discomfort, emotional distress and uncertainty. One counselling session during her recovery became a turning point, reminding her that her experiences mattered and that she deserved compassionate care.

This integrated model reflects the vision of WADADIA Founder and Lead Director, Habiba Mohamed, whose leadership continues to advocate for holistic care for women living with neglected surgical conditions.

As a psychologist and health systems strengthening specialist, Habiba has consistently championed the integration of mental health and psychosocial support into reproductive healthcare, recognizing that recovery involves both physical healing and emotional restoration.

Through Nurturing Generations, WADADIA continues to improve access to quality healthcare, information and support for women and girls throughout every stage of life.

Lulu’s journey is a reminder that restoring health is about more than treating a condition—it is about restoring dignity, hope, opportunity and quality of life.

Because every woman deserves the chance to live free from preventable suffering. 💜
