Healing Beyond the Body: Walking with Mothers Where Care Is Hardest to Reach.
In many parts of Kenya, distance, poverty, and social isolation continue to deny women timely access to maternal health care. For mothers living in hard-to-reach communities, the journey to healing is often long — marked not only by physical illness, but by emotional trauma, stigma, and silence.
Marimna (name changed) is one such mother from Chakama.

Like many women WADADIA serves, Marimna’s story is one of resilience in the face of adversity. Living far from health facilities, she navigated motherhood under difficult conditions — carrying emotional weight that extended beyond her physical health. The effects of prolonged hardship did not end with treatment; they lingered in her mental wellbeing, sense of safety, and ability to fully nurture her child.
At WADADIA, we understand that healing is not complete without caring for the mind, the heart, and the family unit.
Psychosocial Support at the Heart of Care
WADADIA’s work goes far beyond clinical intervention. Our psychosocial support teams walk closely with women before, during, and long after treatment — ensuring no woman is left to heal alone.
For mothers like Marimna, this means access to:
- Trauma-informed counselling and mental health support
- Emotional care that addresses the long-term impact of stigma, isolation, and loss
- Consistent follow-up through field visits and phone check-ins
- Support that strengthens maternal confidence and mother-child bonding
This holistic approach recognises a simple truth:
When a mother’s mental health is supported, her child’s wellbeing is strengthened too.

Reaching Women Where Roads End
Chakama is one of many hard-to-reach areas where healthcare access remains limited. Despite these challenges, WADADIA’s teams continue to reach women in remote communities — ensuring continuity of care through field follow-ups, psychosocial check-ins, and referrals.
Even during the festive season, when many organisations slow down, WADADIA’s commitment remains unwavering. Because trauma does not pause for holidays — and healing cannot wait.
Our teams work closely with mothers to identify evolving needs, provide reassurance, and ensure women feel supported, respected, and seen throughout their recovery journey.
Why Holistic Maternal and Child Health Matters
Maternal health is inseparable from mental health. Child wellbeing is inseparable from maternal wellbeing. By supporting women holistically, WADADIA helps break cycles of neglect, trauma, and poor health outcomes — replacing them with dignity, resilience, and hope.
This is what survivor-centred care looks like:
- Care that follows women home
- Care that prioritises emotional wellbeing
- Care that protects dignity
- Care that strengthens families and communities
This Festive Season, You Can Help
