From Survivor to Trainer: How Skills Training is Creating Pathways to Economic Independence.

At WADADIA, we understand that recovery is not complete when a woman leaves the hospital. True healing means restoring confidence, rebuilding livelihoods, and creating opportunities for long-term independence.

This is why vocational skills training remains an integral component of our Heal, Empower, Restore Dignity (HER Dignity) model.

Among the various skills offered, hairdressing continues to be one of the most practical, flexible, and marketable options available to women and girls. The profession allows graduates to establish home-based businesses, serve clients within their communities, and generate sustainable income with relatively low startup costs.

Our Hairdressing Department welcomes women and girls from diverse backgrounds, including survivors of obstetric fistula, survivors of gender-based violence, and vulnerable youth seeking opportunities for self-reliance.

One of the most inspiring stories emerging from this department is that of Rose.

Rose is a fistula survivor who once sat in the same training room as a learner. Following her treatment and recovery journey, she enrolled in WADADIA’s vocational training program, where she developed professional hairdressing skills. Through dedication and hard work, she successfully completed her training and today serves as a Hairdressing Trainer at WADADIA.

Her journey demonstrates the transformative impact of investing in women. Rose is no longer only a beneficiary of support; she is now an educator, mentor, and role model who equips other women with the skills needed to achieve economic independence.

At WADADIA, we believe that empowering women with practical skills creates lasting change. When women earn an income, they strengthen their families, contribute to local economies, and become active participants in community development.

Every braid woven, every skill shared, and every woman empowered brings us one step closer to a future where dignity, opportunity, and inclusion are accessible to all.

Together, we are healing, empowering, and restoring dignity—one woman at a time. 💜
