Every Child Deserves Safety, Healing, and Hope

The effects of sexual violence extend far beyond physical injuries. They leave emotional scars that require compassion, professional care, and long-term support.

WADADIA strongly condemns all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against children. Every child has the right to grow up safe, protected, and free from violence, and every survivor deserves access to quality healthcare, justice, and compassionate support.

Recently, through WADADIA’s HER Dignity Programme, a seven-year-old girl from Lamu County was referred to WADADIA Habibat Mother and Child Holistic Health and Training Hospital after sustaining serious injuries following sexual violence. She successfully underwent reconstructive surgery and is now recovering under the care of our multidisciplinary team.

During her stay at the hospital, WADADIA Founder and Lead Director Habiba Mohamed regularly visited the child and her mother in the wards, listening to their experiences, offering encouragement, and reassuring them that WADADIA would continue to stand with them throughout their recovery.

Recognising that healing involves more than surgery, WADADIA’s psychosocial support team continues to provide individualized counselling to both mother and daughter. Through trauma-informed care, they are helping the family process their experience, strengthen emotional resilience, and begin rebuilding hope for the future.

At WADADIA, holistic care means addressing both physical recovery and emotional wellbeing. By integrating reconstructive surgery with mental health and psychosocial support, the organisation works to restore dignity while helping survivors and their families move forward with confidence and hope.

As we continue serving women, children, and families across Kenya, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, expanding access to quality care, and advocating for communities where every child is safe and every survivor is treated with compassion and respect.

The child’s name has been changed to protect her identity.

If you know a child or survivor of sexual violence who needs medical care or psychosocial support, please seek help immediately. No survivor should face recovery alone.
