From Survivors to Changemakers: Meet Esther, Irene and Melvin.

At WADADIA, healing is not complete when surgery ends.

True restoration happens when women regain confidence, rebuild livelihoods, reclaim dignity, and find their voices again.

Esther, Irene, and Melvin are powerful examples of this transformation.

As beneficiaries of WADADIA’s reintegration and advocacy program, these three women represent the life-changing impact of holistic fistula care.

Once affected by obstetric fistula—a devastating childbirth injury that often leaves women battling physical pain, stigma, isolation, and emotional trauma—they have since rebuilt their lives and emerged as strong voices in their communities.

Today, they are thriving.

They are entrepreneurs.
They are leaders.
They are advocates.

Esther is now a successful fruits and vegetables trader and a respected village elder. Through her work and leadership role, she actively raises awareness on issues affecting women and children while supporting WADADIA’s efforts to end obstetric fistula.

Together, Esther, Irene, and Melvin are part of WADADIA’s Voices of Hope Movement, a survivor-led advocacy forum bringing together women with lived experience to raise awareness, support survivors, and engage key decision-makers at community level.

Their stories carry powerful influence.

Through lived experience, they help communities understand that obstetric fistula is preventable, treatable, and that no woman should suffer in silence.

WADADIA’s reintegration model ensures survivors are supported beyond treatment.

The program provides:

  • Vocational skills training
  • Entrepreneurship support
  • Digital literacy
  • Financial literacy
  • Psychosocial support
  • Leadership and advocacy development

This holistic approach enables survivors to become economically empowered, socially reintegrated, and active contributors in their communities.

The transformation of Esther, Irene, and Melvin reflects the heart of WADADIA’s HER Dignity model.

These women are no longer defined by their past struggles.

They are leaders shaping the future.

Their journey reminds us that when women heal holistically, they become powerful agents of change—not only for themselves, but for entire communities.

At WADADIA, this is the future we continue to build.
A future where dignity is restored, voices are amplified, and women thrive. 💙
