Two Decades of Silence: Johari’s Journey to Restored Dignity.

For nearly 20 years, Johari, a 69-year-old mother of nine from the remote parts of Tana River County, lived with the devastating effects of Obstetric Fistula.

Her story began with prolonged obstructed labour that tragically resulted in the loss of her baby.

Soon after, she began leaking urine uncontrollably.

Without awareness of treatment or access to healthcare, Johari spent years in pain, shame, and isolation.

The smell of urine caused people to whisper behind her back and distance themselves from her.

She withdrew from social gatherings, lost confidence, and accepted suffering as her reality.

Everything changed when she heard a radio awareness message about free treatment through WADADIA.

That message gave her hope.

Through the HER Dignity Program, WADADIA continues to identify, refer, and treat women battling obstetric fistula and childbirth injuries in underserved communities.

But many more women remain hidden in silence.
