✨ From Pain to Purpose: Dama Cheruto’s Journey of Healing and Hope.
Dear Friend and Supporter,
Meet Dama- She was a wife at 16. A mother at 17. A fistula survivor by 18.
In the quiet, rugged village of Barua, West Pokot, a 20-year-old woman named Dama Cheruto is rewriting her story, one stitch at a time.
Born as the only girl among nine siblings, Dama’s childhood was filled with cattle herding and household duties. Education was an afterthought in her community. By 16, she was married off as a fourth wife. By 17, she had her first child.

At just 18, her world shattered during a difficult labor that ended in a stillbirth and a fistula. Heartbroken, rejected, and in pain, Dama returned to her parents’ home a place where she feared her dreams would wither away.
But one visit changed everything. A compassionate village elder who had heard of WADADIA‘s work connected her with our field officer Pauline Nagila. Dama was screened and referred to Cherangany Nursing Home, where with support from the Fistula Foundation she underwent successful surgery.
That was only the beginning.
Dama joined our Reintegration Program, enrolling in vocational training in dressmaking. Today, she’s learning to sew, smile again, and reclaim her life.
Her dream? To launch her own tailoring business and empower other women in her community.
At WADADIA, we’ve seen hundreds of women rise from despair through holistic support, skills training, and compassion.
You can be part of this ripple of change.
Support our Reintegration Program and help more women like Dama rediscover hope and purpose.
